BIOMETRIC SECURITY DEVELOPMENTS

BIOMETRIC SECURITY DEVELOPMENTS

We’re delighted to announce our partnership with ievo Ltd, the UK based manufacturer of advanced fingerprint biometric solutions, which will enable us to offer their class-leading range of biometric fingerprint readers for access control and time and attendance management in a wide variety of sectors and applications.

Biometric Access Control is one of the fastest growing sectors within the security industry. Market research indicates that the sector will build phenomenal growth over the next five years in the face of increased security concerns and as commercial enterprises adapt to biometric technology and the benefits of advanced access control systems.

ievo Ltd have become one of the most respected manufacturers of fingerprint readers for biometric access control since the company’s formation by security industry professionals in 2009 and have continued to redefine and raise industry standards and expectations of fingerprint biometrics. Since their introduction to the market, ievo Ltd have been working with a network of other security hardware and software manufacturers to develop a strong portfolio of integrated systems, aimed at bringing the best products together for stronger and more reliable access control solutions.

ievo’s flagship product utilizes advanced multispectral imaging (MSI) sensor technology to scan and capture data. MSI uses multiple light sources to read not only the surface of the skin, but also data points from the subsurface level (up to 4mm deep) of a finger. The different light sources can penetrate levels of moisture and debris present on the skin to read data points below. This advanced method allows for a high number of uniquely identifiable data points to be recognized and used for a more accurate, reliable and efficient verification process.

The readers are also designed for both external and internal use and are equipped with integral thermal management systems allowing them to operate in conditions from -20˚C and up to 70˚C and, being IP65 rated, they also function in levels of heavy rain or dust/sand environments.

ievo fingerprint readers integrate with most well-known access control systems and are designed to operate (via the access control system) with a variety of entry point hardware, such as turnstiles, barriers, doors etc. This integration of hardware and software allows for a deeper level of system security and control, and ievo strive to work with all integration partners to ensure that the biometrics data provided is not only reliable and secure, but also used in the best way to enhance system use and function.

Integrated systems not only mean an end to common abuses such as ‘Buddy punching’, whereby a colleague ‘clocks in/out’ another colleague who is not present, as only the relevant individual can scan their fingerprint on the devices, but can also help to reduce costs to a site’s security infrastructure as the simple installation means less time onsite for engineers making this ideal for remote locations or large critical sites due to the durability of ievo products.

Biometric fingerprint readers rapidly pay for themselves and have a far lower life-time cost as they require no additional consumables, such as additional cards, nor do they have to be reprogrammed, as in the case of numeric keypads in the event of any hard reset, power outage or spike which can be commonplace on construction sites for example. Additionally, and probably of more important to end customers, biometric recognition systems provide an infallible access control system that can be integrated with a number of hardware and software systems reducing the need for multiple systems and installations, which can prove costly to both time and resources.

Biometric fingerprint readers provide a fast and reliable security solution which, when integrated into time and attendance systems, can also provide highly accurate and reliable information regarding attendance data making this ideal for a number of prominent industries such as:

Shipping & logistics – where the stability of the products will be ruthlessly tested by environmental conditions, meaning the durability and thermal management functions of ievo readers are key. Some of these sites can be remotely located meaning longevity and reliability can be just as important as accuracy, which are both assured.

Critical infrastructure – where accurate site security is paramount but also the biometric information can be used to provide fast, accurate and reliable health and safety records alongside the assurance that only those with access permissions can be on site. The heightened level of access control means that critical or high risk sites are more secure as opposed to any system where credentials can easily be shared or stolen.

Commercial properties
– where ievo biometric systems can be used to protect staff and resources, provide quick, convenient and accurate workforce management and can be integrated into a time and attendance system to assist with company payroll and health and safety protocols. Since ievo solutions can be integrated into a number of access control platforms, this can be easily added as an extra layer of security to new or existing sites.

Sports & leisure – where the sub dermal scanning of the MSI technology is relied on to scan through levels of moisture, creams and chalk/powder commonly associated with gyms’ facilities. Another paramount benefit is the removal of secondary credentials (cards, fobs, PINs) which can all be lost, shared or stolen, with fingerprint access only registered users are permitted access, which can potentially help in reducing lost revenue. The installation of such access control also frees staff members for more productive tasks.

In some cases ievo has even been used to secure sections of prominent sporting arenas meaning biometric access control is of particular interest to the construction industry where large developments, such as those currently under construction for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, can employ hundreds of workers from different contractors and sub-contractors which presents logistical challenges for site management. ievo systems, integrated with access control and specialised construction industry software, can simplify and efficiency help with large scale workforce management, including improving health and safety records.

Stephen Thompson, Export Sales Manager for ievo Ltd commented, “The Middle East market is not only mature but also very sophisticated with a track record of rapidly assimilating new technology so is more than ready for our products. It’s a very exciting time for us at ievo as we expand into a new territory for ourselves and we’re already seeing a substantial growth in the Middle Eastern markets with regards to general security products and specifically biometric recognition systems for access control which are rapidly gaining market share.”

With NIT becoming the official distribution partner of ievo Ltd for META territories, these advance biometric solutions for access control are now available to wider markets within the Middle East. At Intersec Dubai 2018, ievo staff will be joining the NIT stand to showcase the full product range of ievo fingerprint readers and will be available to offer advice on the provision of biometric solutions.

Stephen Thompson concluded, “We are looking forward to Intersec and showcasing our technology and solutions to existing and potential clients, explaining the particular functions and benefits of our products that will provide solutions to access control challenges. Investment in security infrastructures in this region is rapidly increasing as demand for the most advanced systems increases.”

“We firmly believe that the future of access control will be biometric recognition systems working in close partnership with system integrators, consultants and vendors to build innovative products and solutions to protect and deliver high value for end users.”
